Now it's time to extend to the Moving Map feature
of our EFIS.
Good value for money !!
Cost to Register $75.00 US Additional 3Dview $25.00 US
OziExplorer
version 3.90.3a of the software is available
REquirements:
Windows 95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP with OpenGL support
(this is standard for all except Windows 95).
A graphics card with OpenGL hardware and driver support is preferred
for performance reasons but is not essential OziExplorer GPS Mapping

Height Data for the regions of interest.
Allthough it isn't very usefull in the Netherlands,
because it's pretty flat.
We are going for the 3D view option.

We have to start
testing the moving map.
We need some nice usefull maps of the Netherlands and all other
european countries with great detail.
Height Data for the region of interest.
Were the hell do I find this Data ?? RTFM
!!!
GTOPO30 is a global digital elevation model
(DEM) with a horizontal grid spacing of 30 arc seconds (approximately
1 kilometer). The Gtopo30 data can be downloaded from here GTOPO30
DEM Data for most of the World. (Free download)
Total of 33 files = 291,004,416 bytes. This will take some time
with a 56k modem.
http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/seg/topo/gltiles.shtml
(Globe data) 16 chunks for world coverage.
(get the GTOPO30DEM for your ozi)
The European
GTOPO30 data looks like this
.

What is the height precision of the data ?
Can it be used for anti collision purpusses ?
GTOPO30 data covers the globe and has a 1 km (30-arc second) resolution.
Vertical accuracy (meters)
Source, L.E. at 90%, RMSE, Estimation method
DTED, 30, 18, product specification
DCW, 160, 97, calculated vs. DTED
The comparison was done for portions of southern Europe and the
Mideast, and all of Africa USGS DEM, 30, 18, product specification
AMS maps, 250, 152, estimated from 500-meter interval
IMW maps, 50, 30, estimated from 100-meter interval
Peru map, 500, 304, estimated from 1,000-meter interval N.Z.
DEM, 15, 9, estimated from 100-foot interval
ADD highly variable wide range of scales and intervals
For Europe the accuracy of +-160m
@90% confidence level can be used for collision purpusses
It's for you to decide. If I was in Peru this is close to suicide
!
I want at least 100m between me and a collision point.
The DTED format
is standardized in three resolutions:
Level 2, with an horizontal resolution of 1 arc second, that is
about 30m;
Level 1, with an horizontal resolution of 3 arc seconds, that is
about 100m;
Level 0, with an horizontal resolution of 30 arc seconds, that is
about 1 km.
MONA Pro Europe is a Digital Elevation Model (DEM).This DEM has
undergone strict quality analyses. Level 1 data, geometric
precision (RMS of 3.5 , with peaks at 12.5 meters in high relief
zones). But the price is huge !!!

We have to stick to the Level 0 elevation data , because more precise
data is costing a fortune.

"the Memorandum of Understanding between NASA
and NIMA for SRTM specifies that data processed at 3 arc-seconds
for anywhere on the globe will be unrestricted,
as will 1 arc-second data for the United States and its territories
and possessions." "Distribution of one arc-second data for outside
the United States will be approved by NIMA on a case-by-case basis
for NASA Investigators, for their use only."
We must be able to improve our data to
level 1, it must be out there for free.
We found out that finding nice european maps
is very difficult. (at least for a low budget)
So Ozi, became impractical to use. We switch to another moving map
